Tradera is a purpose-driven company with a strong belief that people deserve a smooth way to care about the planet. In a time when things are becoming both cheaper and more accessible, our role at Tradera is more important than ever. We believe that consumption has a large impact on our planet and we’re determined to use what we control – our business, our voice, our creativity, and our platform to do something about it.
We’re on a mission to 'Drive the Transition to Sustainable Shopping', by shifting the way people consume and resell preloved goods. In order to drive change, we need to stay curious, work as one team and always put our user first.
To continue, we need more people to join us!
For over twenty years, Tradera has been working with circular consumption but it has never been more relevant than today. With our business model, we can have a positive impact on society and the environment by promoting more sustainable shopping.
Every week Tradera is visited by 3 million users and 1 million items are being listed, creating a tremendous amount of listings to process. Moreover, the near-unicity of our items complicates the task of finding meaningful traits to characterize items and thus impedes our potential to compare them.
In the Data Team, we discover how to use these data to gain insights and create great user experiences.
While most of the e-commerces rely on well-known, persistent inventory, the perk of Tradera is to dispose of a constant flux of original items, ranging from commercially available to unique. By ethically using the information provided by our users, we can tackle the task of finding meaningful traits to better characterize those items and create our own impermanent inventory. Machine- and Deep- learning methods have provided means to extract a lot of meaningful information from multi-modal sources provided by the users, such as images and descriptions. By aggregating this data properly, we can leverage the potential to compare our items and provide the most accurate characterisation for the products our users need.
The scope of the Master’s thesis project could include:
Providing an adequate literature review on multi-modal AI for item characterisation.
Understanding and evaluating the data source currently available in our warehouse.
Developing an implementation of natural language processing for [image, text] pairs prediction.
